Boatbuilding
Major project over the long weekend just gone.
Building a little yacht together with Toby (aged 5) for his “show and tell” at kindy.
Thank god for the simple (and straight) lines of the Star boat for ease of construction. Got a bit messy at paint time, though. Nothing like a bit of “male-bonding factory time”.
Alby and Rocket’s Euro travels
My great friends, Alby and Rocket (aka David and Melanie) from Melbourne, sold everything a couple of years back and embarked on the trip of a lifetime. First stop (for almost a couple of years I think) was the Bahamas, where they ran a charter yacht for the Moorings organisation.
Anyway, they are now on tour in Europe, getting around in a campervan. Below is their latest instalment. A great read for anyone interested in travel tales. Alby is 40-something, going on 20. He was the best man when Kate and I were married in Melbourne (nearly ten years ago!!). He has always had an old-fashioned spirit of adventure and do-it-yourself. He has a soul-mate in Rocket in every regard. (more…)
Can’t wait…..
Later in the year, we are off to the Star class Worlds in windy San Francisco Bay.
The Star was designed a hundred years ago for the light airs in Long Island Sound. They can be a handful in a breeze as the series of photos from stars sailing on San Fran Bay on the home page of StarGear.net shows.
