Bacardi Cup – Star Class
Iain and I depart this week for the Bacardi Cup in the Star Class. This event is huge in the Star Class. It is apparently the longest running single-sponsor event in the world in any sport. The class itself was founded 95 years ago!
The event starts on the 6th of March. Expecting a fleet of 80+ boats. Hopefully I will get time to post updates. Anyhow, follow our progress on the class website – starclass.org
Evolution takes out the Farr40 Inner Circle Regatta
Team Evolution, helmed by Richard Perini won the Inner Circle Regatta at Pittwater over the weekend. The boys won with a race to spare, which is a top effort, given there are no discard races in the Farr40 class. There were 13 boats racing.
Snatching defeat from the Jaws of Victory
Richard Perini’s Team Evolution placed fourth at the Farr40 Alfa Romeo Regatta on Sydney Harbour over the weekend.
Chicken Dinners in the Goblets
Iain Murray, Michael Coxon and myself won the Milson Silver Goblets Etchells Regatta held on Sydney Harbour out of the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron.
The Goblets format is one race per evening for the whole week. This year’s regatta saw 21 boats compete. It was a very tricky weather pattern all week, which saw the scores all over the place. (more…)
Farr40 Aussie Training Squad
The last two weeks have seen activity in the Farr40’s with a keen group forming a training squad in the lead up to the a series of regattas that culminate in the Nationals at Pittwater in March.
The guys I coach on Richard Perini’s Evolution are the “drivers” behind the training squad, leading up to a defence of their world title in Newport Rhode Island this coming September.
