Etchells Nationals and general Jan 09 update

Again, it’s been far too long since my last blog posting. I am sure even Mum and Chucky have given up on me by now.

Anyway, it’s been another great few weeks in the life of a sailor, coach and Dad. (more…)

Home Renovating – Danger!!!

Over Christmas, we packed the tribe into the car and went to Metung on the Gippsland Lakes. Great time with our good friends Alby and Rocket, who have just bought a house there and are settling, after a couple of years working charter boats in the Bahamas. They are marrying in Metung in March and were planning to have kids in the near future. After having our three kids stay at their house, the plan to have children may have slipped back a bit on the to-do list…

Upon getting back to Avalon, I decided it was finally time to build the front fence properly, so I took to it in a big way. I enjoy working on the house with the cricket on the radio and the kids running around. The fence has become a priority, due to the issue of pint-sized escapees finding their way off the property and too close to the road.

Anyway, on Day 3 of the project (would have been day 5 of the Melbourne test match if the English could actually play cricket), I put the wood saw through my hand and went straight to hospital for an operation. After nearly 40 years, I had my first general anaesthic and my first plaster cast. (more…)

He was 3.5kg and healthy. So far he is fitting in very well at home and much loved by Toby (5) and Annabel (2 years old today!!).

Boatbuilding

Major project over the long weekend just gone.

Building a little yacht together with Toby (aged 5) for his “show and tell” at kindy.

Thank god for the simple (and straight) lines of the Star boat for ease of construction. Got a bit messy at paint time, though. Nothing like a bit of “male-bonding factory time”.

Alby and Rocket’s Euro travels

My great friends, Alby and Rocket (aka David and Melanie) from Melbourne, sold everything a couple of years back and embarked on the trip of a lifetime. First stop (for almost a couple of years I think) was the Bahamas, where they ran a charter yacht for the Moorings organisation.

Anyway, they are now on tour in Europe, getting around in a campervan. Below is their latest instalment. A great read for anyone interested in travel tales. Alby is 40-something, going on 20. He was the best man when Kate and I were married in Melbourne (nearly ten years ago!!). He has always had an old-fashioned spirit of adventure and do-it-yourself. He has a soul-mate in Rocket in every regard. (more…)

And the big news is….

Another Palfrey on the way in July 06!

Yep, Kate’s pregnant again! All going well, Toby and Annabel will have a little brother or sister later in the year.

I’m trying to work out what keeps causing this….DSC00040
